Colombia Rejects Claims of Its Involvement in Maduro’s Attempted Murder

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Colombia’s government rejected the accusations that it had masterminded the attempted murder of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.

"The Foreign Ministry on behalf of Colombia’s government flatly rejects the accusations against Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos made by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The accusations that the Colombian leader bears responsibility for the alleged attack on the Venezuelan president are absurd and unfounded," the ministry tweeted.

The ministry also notes that it has become a standard practice for the Venezuelan leader to accuse Colombia in any situation.

"We demand respect for President Juan Manuel Santos, the government and the Colombian people," it said, TASS news agency reported.

The Venezuelan president’s attempted assassination was committed on Saturday with the use of several drones with explosives when Maduro was delivering his speech at the ceremony for the 81st anniversary of the Bolivarian National Guard’s establishment. Seven law enforcement officers were wounded. Neither the state leader, not the top government officials were injured in the explosion.

The Venezuelan president said several participants of his attempted murder were detained and accused the Colombian leader of being behind the plot. Maduro also said some those who planned to kill him live in the United States.
