Iranians Mark Tasou'a on The Eve of Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Millions of people in Iran mourned the martyrdom of Abbas ibn Ali, brother and most beloved companion of the third Shiite Imam, Hussein ibn Ali (AS) on the day of Tasou'a, the 9th day of the lunar month of Muharram, the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
Iranians in their millions took part in massive procession ceremonies across country, marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of Shiite Islam's most beloved leaders.
Mourners took to the streets or gathered in mosques to grieve the slaying of Imam Hussein (AS), his family and his companions.
Dressed in black, mourners beat their chests with bare hands in order to show their grief over the death of their dear Imam and the grandson of prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Tasou'a and Ashoura mark the climax of the Remembrance of Muharram, marking the death of Imam Hussein (AS) in the Battle of Karbala, Iraq, in 680 A.D.
