Iran Misses Out on AFC Championship Quarterfinals
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Despite defeating Vietnam 5-0 in its final Group C tie, Iran failed to advance to the quarter-final of the AFC U-16 Championship Malaysia 2018 on Thursday.
With Indonesia and India playing to a draw to finish with five points, Iran had to be satisfied with third place and four points in the group.
Iran started the campaign with a 2-0 loss against Indonesia and drew 0-0 with India.
Arya Barzegar, Amin Dootali, Amin Mousavi and Amirhossein Azizi were on target for the Iranian team.
The 2018 AFC U-16 Championship is the 18th edition of the AFC U-16 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-16 national teams of Asia.
It got underway in Malaysia from September 20 to October 7.
The top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru as the AFC representatives.
