Iranian Deputy FM, Tajik Ministers Discuss Closer Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi, who is on an official visit to Tajikistan, held separate talks with the energy and foreign ministers of the Central Asian country about a range of issues, including ways to boost ties between Tehran and Dushanbe in diverse fields.

In the meeting with Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda on Thursday, Sarmadi highlighted the important position of neighboring countries in Iran’s foreign policy, the official website of the Foreign Ministry reported on Saturday.

The deputy foreign minister also voiced the Islamic Republic’s readiness to deepen relations with Tajikistan in all areas, economy in particular.   

Usmonzoda, for his part, hailed the close cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe in the area of energy and praised the performance of the Iranian companies and engineers in his country’ development projects.  

In the other meeting in the same day, Sarmadi and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Mukhridinovich Aslov discussed ways to develop cooperation between the two neighboring countries in diverse spheres.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Sarmadi has traveled to Tajikistan to attend a two-day conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which was expected to focus on boosting cooperation in fighting terrorism, besides deliberating on pressing regional and global issues.
