Iran’s Hejazi Nominated for Best Ever AFC Asian Cup Goalkeeper

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Late Nasser Hejazi has been nominated as the best ever AFC Asian Cup goalkeeper.

There are five other candidates, namely Mohammed Al Deayea (Saudi Arabia), Lee Woon-jae (Korea Republic), Noor Sabri (Iraq), Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Japan), Mark Schwarzer (Australia), for becaming the best ever keeper.

One of Asia’s greatest goalkeepers of the 20th century, Hejazi was Iran’s number one as Team Melli won back-to-back AFC Asian Cup titles in 1972 and 1976.

Hejazi, who passed away in 2011, represented Iran in the 1972 Olympic Games and was part of the first Iran team to qualify to the FIFA World Cup six year later, the-afc.com wrote.

At club level, Hejazi represented Esteghlal for 16 years, leading the team to become the first Iranian side to win the Asian Club Championship in 1970.
