Iran’s Top General Derides Trump’s ‘Humiliating’ Visit to Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri derided US President Donald Trump’s “humiliating and sneaky” trip to Iraq.

Addressing an academic festival in Tehran on Sunday, Major General Baqeri said the US president claims to be the world’s most powerful man, but he had to visit Iraq in a “humiliating and sneaky” manner.

On the same day that Trump had to visit Iraq with blacked-out windows inside the plane and fear for his wife, an Iranian official visited Afghanistan and held several meetings with Afghan officials, the Iranian general said, adding that it shows the difference between Iran and the US, the “truth and falsehood” fronts.

Trump has admitted that he had been concerned about making an unannounced visit to American troops in Iraq on Wednesday. Trump said blacked-out windows inside the plane and unspecified concerns for first lady Melania Trump, who made the trip as well, had left him wary.

"Not for myself personally. I had concerns for the first lady, I will tell you. But if you would have seen what we had to go through in the darkened plane with all window closed with no light anywhere. Pitch black,” Trump has said about the way he entered Iraq.

Elsewhere in his comments, Major General Baqeri denounced the US support for Takfiri terrorists in Syria, saying Americans have directly helped the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in the Arab country by saving them with choppers and by sending them logistical supplies.

“Americans went to Syria without permission from the Syrian nation and government, and invaded and occupied part of that country’s territory,” the Iranian general added.

He also pointed to the US humiliating pullout from Syria, saying the terrorist-sponsoring countries have now queued up to reopen embassies in Damascus.

Syrian troops defeated Daesh late last year and took back all the urban bastions the terror group once had under its control, but the group's remnants have been trying to regroup and have mounted a series of hit-and-run attacks.
