Iran’s Top General Meets with Azeri President in Baku
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and Azerbaijani President Ilham exchanged views about a range of issues, including ways to boost cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various defense areas.
In the meeting, held in Baku on Wednesday, Major General Baqeri and Aliyev held talks on closer relations in military and defense spheres.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Iranian top general arrived in Azerbaijan earlier on Wednesday to meet with senior officials of the country.
A military-defense memorandum of understanding (MoU) is slated to be signed at the end of Major General Baqeri's visit to Azerbaijan.
Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.
The Azeri president has paid several official visits to Tehran over the past few years.
In one of the trips in 2016, the two sides signed eleven memorandums of understanding and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
