Parliament Approves Iranian President’s Picks for Two Ministries

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s parliament on Tuesday gave the vote of confidence to two new ministers nominated by President Hassan Rouhani.

In an open session of the Parliament this morning, the lawmakers gave the vote of confidence to the president’s picks for the Ministry of Education and the newly-established Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.

Mohsen Haji Mirzaee takes the office at the Ministry of Education after winning 200 votes from the MPs, while Ali Asghar Mounesan has secured his place in the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts by garnering 165 votes.

In August, Iran’s Guardian Council ratified a plan for the formation of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism. Rouhani later appointed Mounesan as the caretaker of the newly-formed ministry.

Mounesan was a vice president who had taken the helm at Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) in August 2017.

The post of Minister of Education was vacant after Seyed Mohammad Bathaei stepped down from his job in June to run for the Parliament.
