Iran Beats Kyrgyzstan at AFC Futsal C’ship Qualifications

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran completed its AFC Futsal Championship Turkmenistan 2020 Qualifiers for the South & Central Zones as group winner after an impressive 8-3 win over Kyrgyz Republic at the Ghadir Hall in Oroumiyeh on Friday.

Mahdi Javid starred with a hat-trick, while Mahdi Karimi scored twice and Hamid Ahmadi, Mohammad Shajari and Taha Nematian each scored one goal.

Considered one of the world’s best sides, Iran has won 12 of the 15 previous editions of the AFC Futsal Championship, also finishing third at the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.

The six group winners - two each from West, East and the combined Central and South zones - from the Qualifiers will advance to the Finals.

They will be joined by the respective group runner-up from the Central and South Zones. The third team from the East Zone will be decided through a playoff.

The respective runner-up from the West zone will also qualify with the fifth spot to be decided via a playoff between the third-placed teams from the two groups.

The AFC Futsal Championship 2020 will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from February 24 to March 10.
