Iran, China Weigh Plans for Police Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of interior and China’s ambassador to Tehran discussed plans for cooperation between the police forces of the two countries and the fight against terrorism and narcotics.

In a Sunday meeting with China's Ambassador to Iran Chang Hua, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said Tehran regards Beijing as a close partner.

China’s stances in the international organizations and its close cooperation with Iran are very important for the Iranian people, the minister added, expressing confidence that the independent and powerful state of China will not be influenced by the foreign pressures in shaping relations with Iran.

Rahmani Fazli further voiced Iran’s readiness to promote cooperation with China in the fight against organized crimes, terrorism and narcotics trafficking, and called for close interaction between the Police and security forces of Iran and China.

“Iran has been a victim of terrorism and has also fought against terrorism for a long time, and could share its experiences with China,” the interior minister added.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador stressed the need for the expansion of police cooperation with Iran, hoping that Iran and China would elevate their relations to the level of strategic ties.

“China has always opposed the imposition of unilateral, cruel and illegal sanctions against Iran,” Chang Hua noted.

In late August, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to China to explore avenues for the expansion of strategic relations between the two nations in talks with senior Chinese officials.

In a meeting in Beijing, Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed various issues related to bilateral relations, the latest developments in the implementation of the JCPOA, a roadmap for Iran-China ties in the next 25 years, the security of the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, and the illegal and unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on independent countries.

On September 17, Chairwoman of the Money and Capital Market Commission of Tehran’s Chamber of Commerce Farial Mostofi said a $400 billion credit line has been launched for trade between Iran and China.
