Some European Countries Blocking Export of Disinfectants to Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini highlighted the efforts to combat the outbreak of the new coronavirus in Iran and slammed some European countries for blocking the efforts.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, a task force was formed in the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini, as the organization mobilized all means to combat the virus, Mohammad Mokhber said on Wednesday.

“Given the country's conditions and the need for sanitary equipment and disinfectants, we immediately took steps to import these materials but, unfortunately, some vicious European countries blocked the transfer of the materials although an agreement had been signed with them,” he said.

“Despite all these conditions, we will try to solve the problem of supply and demand for disinfectants and hygienic materials in the country by next week…,” he went on to say. 

According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the death toll from the COVID-19 outbreak in Iran rose to 77 on Tuesday, with the confirmed cases of infection surpassing 2,336.

Medical staffs in 20 provinces of Iran have been working tirelessly over the past weeks to contain the novel coronavirus that has originated from China.

Following the increase of coronavirus increase, the Iranian government ordered the shutting of schools and universities and a ban on concerts and sports events.

Several high-ranking officials, including the deputy health minister and five lawmakers, have tested positive for the coronavirus as the spread of the outbreak forced the government to call on people to stay at home.
