In one of the conversations on Thursday night, Foreign Minister Zarif and his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama discussed the latest developments in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.

The problems in face of the coronavirus, the deterrent effects of US unilateral and illegal sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran's confrontation with the disease, and humanitarian issues related to prisoners were among the topics discussed by the Iranian and Nigerian foreign ministers.

Separately, the top Iranian diplomat and Kenya’s Foreign Minister Raychelle Awour Omamo talked about the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world, the destructive role of the US’ unilateral, cruel, and illegal sanctions on the way to counter the spread of the disease in Iran, and the humanitarian issues of the prisoners.

Foreign Minister also held a telephone conversation with his Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zakharieva about the outbreak of the coronavirus and the adverse impacts of the US sanctions on the supply of the necessary items for containing the epidemic in Iran.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran rose to 1,433 on Friday. Meanwhile, at least 6,745 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease in the country as the number of positive cases has exceeded 19,600.

The novel coronavirus has infected more than 244,500 people and killed over 10,000 worldwide.
