Ansarullah Calls for Political Solution to Saudi War on Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - President of Yemen's Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat urged the EU to pave the way for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

In a message sent to the President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday, al-Mashat said the Houthi Ansarullah movement welcomed a recent call by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to end the Saudi-led aggression against the impoverished Arab country, Saba news agency reported.

Al-Mashat said the Council expects the EU to play a positive role in halting the Saudi-led coalition attacks.

In a statement in late March, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths said the UN is particularly concerned about continuing military activities in Ma’rib and its surroundings and urged the warring parties to end hostilities and reach a ceasefire agreement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the Saudi war has claimed more than 100,000 lives in Yemen since it began in March 2015.

The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are now in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
