Coronavirus Cases Exceed 131,000 in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Iran has surpassed 131,600, of whom more than 102,000 have fully recovered from the disease, the Health Ministry spokesperson said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Friday, Kianoosh Jahanpoor said the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 has reached 102,276.

The number of those tested positive for the coronavirus across the country has risen to 131,652 following the detection of 2,311 new cases over the past 24 hours, he noted.

According to the spokesman, 51 coronavirus patients have died across the country since Thursday, bringing the total death toll to 7,300.

Among the coronavirus patients undergoing treatment in the hospital at present, 2,659 ones have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, he added.

The spokesman further noted that almost 764,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

He said zero deaths have been reported in 14 provinces during the past 24 hours, while six other provinces have reported only one death from coronavirus infection each.

More than 5,197,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll has exceeded 334,000.
