Envoy Denies Report on Seizure of Iranian Tankers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Caracas dismissed a report from The Wall Street Journal that the US has confiscated four Iranian oil tankers carrying fuel to Venezuela.

In a post on his Twitter account, Hojjat Soltani denied the report of seizure of Iranian oil tankers, describing it as “another lie and psychological war from the US imperialism’s propaganda machine.”

“Neither are the vessels Iranian, nor have their owners or flags anything to do with Iran,” the ambassador stressed.

Soltani added that the “terrorist” president of the US could not make up for his defeat and humiliation in the face of the great Iranian nation with false news.

The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials as saying on Thursday that that the Trump administration has for the first time confiscated cargo in vessels allegedly loaded with Iranian fuel in violation of sanctions.

One official said the vessels had been taken over without the use of military force but did not provide any details, the report claimed.

Another unconfirmed report has said that the four oil tankers – Luna, Pandi, Bering, and Bella- have been seized in the high seas in recent days and are now en route to Houston.
