Iran Lauds Japanese PM Abe after His Resignation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the outgoing Japanese prime minister for his valuable contribution to the promotion of Tehran-Tokyo ties after Abe Shinzo resigned because of poor health.

In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh commented on the Japanese prime minister's resignation, saying Mr. Abe Shinzo provided valuable assistance for development of the friendly and historical relations between the two nations during both of his terms in office.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran stresses its resolve to reinforce its relations with Japan and appreciates Mr. Abe's attention to ties between the two countries," the spokesman said, wishing health and success for Abe Shinzo.

Abe announced on Friday he was resigning because of poor health, ending a tenure as Japan’s longest-serving prime minister in which he sought to revive economy.
