Iran’s Top General Offers Aid to Turkey after Earthquake

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri expressed the country’s readiness to provide assistance to the Turkish citizens affected by a recent earthquake in Turkey’s western province of Izmir.

In a Monday message to Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Yasar Guler, the senior Iranian commander expressed sympathy with the Turkish military forces, government and nation over the deaths and injuries in the earthquake.

Major General Baqeri also assured his Turkish counterpart that the Iranian Armed Forces are prepared to provide any relief aid and assistance for the people affected by the quake.

The death toll from Friday’s earthquake in Izmir has reached 83, while nearly 1,000 people have been injured.

Rescue teams continue to find people alive from the wreckage of their collapsed apartment buildings in Turkey’s third-largest city days after the powerful earthquake hit Turkey and Greece.
