Zarif in Message to Neighbors: Trump Is Gone, Iran Stays Forever

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told the country’s neighbors that the Islamic Republic was ready to resolve differences through dialogue following US President Donald Trump’s loss in the presidential election.

“A sincere message to our neighbors: Trump's gone in 70 days. But we'll remain here forever. Betting on outsiders to provide security is never a good gamble. We extend our hand to our neighbors for dialog to resolve differences. Only together can we build a better future for all,” Zarif said in a tweet early on Monday.

In another post on his Twitter account on Sunday, he said, “The American people have spoken. And the world is watching whether the new leaders will abandon disastrous lawless bullying of outgoing regime—and accept multilateralism, cooperation & respect for law. Deeds matter most Iran's record: dignity, interest & responsible diplomacy”.

Zarif’s comments came after US Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden surpassed the 270 electoral votes he needed to oust Trump on Saturday to become the new US president.

Biden, in his first speech following his win, said it was "time to heal" a deeply divided nation.

“The people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory,” Biden told honking and cheering supporters in a parking lot in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
