Protesters Hold Demo against 'Quran-Burning' Rally in Berlin (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A rally registered by Danish far-right party Stram Kurs ('Hard Line'), which intended to burn a copy of the Quran in Berlin's Neukolln did not take place after around 300 Muslim protesters rallied to stand up against the planned Islamophobic demonstration.

The Muslim counter-protesters showed up in hundreds with banners reading 'Neukolln is no backdrop for right-wing civil war fantasy' and 'Stand up to hate speech.'

"We are in a multi-cultural society, we accept the freedom of opinion, one can also say their opinion, but to burn something, it doesn't matter which book, we are absolutely against that," said Raed Zaloum, the president of the Islamic Culture and Education Center in Berlin.

Party leader Rasmus Paludan was reportedly arrested in France before being expelled.

He had already been refused entry by police two weeks ago for planning a similar demonstration in Neukolln. A day later, the right-wing extremist politician is reported to have attempted to return by land to Berlin, but was arrested in front of the Nordic embassy.
