Iran Condemns Attack on Nigerian Farm Workers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned a brutal attack on farm laborers in northeast of Nigeria.

In a statement on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh vehemently condemned the recent gruesome attack on Nigerian farm workers in the African country’s northeastern state of Borno.

The Iranian diplomat also offered his condolences to the Nigerian government, people, and families of victims of the terrible incident.

Some 40 people have been reported ‘slaughtered’ in attack on laborers working in rice fields in Borno state of Nigeria.

The assailants on Saturday tied up the agricultural workers and slit their throats in the village of Koshobe, near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

“We have recovered 43 dead bodies, all of them slaughtered, along with six others with serious injuries,” Babakura Kolo, a leader of a local militia fighting armed groups in the region, told AFP.

Reuters, citing a village leader, a local fighter with the Zamarmari group and a police source, also reported the attack, putting the death toll to at least 40 people.

A search by the authorities for the attackers has been launched, it added.
