Yemen Commemorates Anniversary of Saudi Massacre in Ras Isa Port
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemenis held a rally in front of the United Nations office in the capital Sana’a under the title "massacre of Ras Isa oil port, a crime that does not fall by the statute of limitations."
The event was held to commemorate the deaths of over a dozen people in Saudi airstrikes that targeted Ras Isa port in Hudaydah province in January 2016. Participants also held Friday prayers in front of the UN office.
They condemned the international silence on Saudi crimes. The protesters also slammed Saudi Arabia for its continued detention of Yemeni oil vessels and demanded their release. They said Riyadh must stop bombing Yemen's oil facilities and petrol stations.
The demonstrators also called for lifting the blockade and the opening of Sana’a International Airport.
The Saudi-led coalition is still holding ten Yemeni oil vessels, some of them for over 9 months. This is making a bad situation worse in a country that is facing famine, war and blockade.
Yemenis say the United Nations bears responsibility for the crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition including the continued detention of oil vessels that have UN permits, as it provides the political cover for Riyadh and its allies.
