Iran Beats Canada in VNL 2021

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran volleyball team emerged victorious against Canada in the 2021 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) on Thursday.

Vladimir Alekno’s men lost the first set 22-25 but won the next three sets with the same scoreboard to register their second win in the competition.

Iran lost to Japan and Russia in its first two matches but defeated the Netherlands in the third match.

Saber Kazemi earned 17 points for Iran, while Sclater Ryan Joseph scored 17 points for the Canadian team.

Team Melli will also play Italy and Bulgaria on Friday and Saturday in Week 2.

The competition format is a single round robin pool with each of the 16 teams facing every other ahead of semifinals between the top four of the standings.

The semifinal winners will clash for the title, with the losers playing out for the bronze medal.

The tournament is being held in Rimini, Italy within a secure 'bubble' with all hygiene protocols in place to ensure the health and well-being of all athletes, officials and staff throughout the competition.
