Iran Ensuring Security of Region: President
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani assured the neighboring states that Iran’s military power is only aimed at defense and ensuring the security of region, including the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Speaking at a videoconference, held on Monday to unveil two homegrown naval vessels, President Rouhani made it clear for the neighbors that Iran has not taken and will never take any act of aggression against the other countries.
The Iranian Armed Forces’ power is only for deterrence and defense, the president underlined, adding, “We do not seek war and tensions, but we’ll not bow down to the aggressive powers either.”
“Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is a power that guarantees the regional security for itself and the neighbors,” he noted.
Rouhani then gave an assurance that the Iranian military forces are protecting the security of the neighboring states, the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the sovereignty of Iran and its neighbors.
The president reiterated that Iran would not need any weapons of mass destruction for defense, nor does it seek to acquire them, because the WMDs are explicitly prohibited under a religious decree from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Iran is trying to boost its nuclear, space and missile capabilities for the improvement of local industries and modern technologies, President Rouhani stressed, adding, “Our nuclear power is not for making nuclear weapons. The US and Europe should know and understand it. Iran’s nuclear activities are fully peaceful, as our (uranium) enrichment (work) is for the fulfillment of the country’s needs in the medical sectors and energy industry.”
In the videoconference, the president ordered the Navy to unveil ‘Dena’ destroyer and ‘Shahin’ (falcon) minesweeper.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.
