Envoy: Iran Supports Initiative for Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan voiced Tehran’s backing for an initiative to set up a 6-party mechanism for regional peace and stability.

In a post on his Twitter account on Friday, Iranian Ambassador to Baku, Seyed Abbas Mousavi, said, “Iran supports initiative to establish a 3+3 format regional mechanism to bolster peace, stability and development in our region.”

He also noted that the three southern Caucasian states (the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia), together with the three regional neighbors (Iran, Turkey, and Russia) can cooperate for the good of the region.

In a meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku in January, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif welcomed the six-party regional cooperation initiative proposed by Baku and expressed Tehran’s readiness for help and cooperation in any field contributing to regional peace, stability and calm.

The six-party initiative, put forward by the presidents of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan, would include Iran, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan Republic, Georgia and Armenia.
