Coronavirus in Iran: Over 17,000 New Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran during the past 24 hours exceeded 17,000, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 3.3 million after the detection of 17,212 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,710 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,344 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 85,261, saying the disease has taken the lives of 166 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 2,967,800 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 24.19 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 4.5 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 185 million and the death toll has exceeded 4 million.
