In a post on its Twitter account on Tuesday, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy in Tokyo said Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu’s visit to Tehran in the near future could open a “new chapter in the deepening and promotion of bilateral relations” as a new administration is being formed in Iran.

It also noted that the upcoming ministerial visit will provide an opportunity for closer consultations between Iran and Japan about major regional and international subjects as well as issues of mutual interest.

The Japanese foreign minister said on Tuesday that he will visit Egypt, Iran, Palestine, Turkey and Qatar, among others, from August 15 to discuss regional security and the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

His visit to the Middle East will extend through August 24, and is aimed at consolidating Japan's ties with the area which is strategically important to Tokyo as a major oil supplier, Kyodo News reported.

“Through the visit, I want to reiterate our commitment to the Middle East, which has contributed to its peace and prosperity over the years,” Motegi said at a press conference.

Referring to the formation of new governments in Iran and the Zionist regime, Motegi said, “I would like to frankly exchange opinions on the regional situation and work closely with them to promote the stability of the region.”
