Iran Among World’s Top 5 Electronic Warfare Powers: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian Defense Ministry general said that thanks to the Islamic Republic’s considerable progress in the electronics industry and radar technologies, the country is among the world’s top five powers in the electronic warfare sphere.

In remarks at a televised program on Sunday, the CEO of Iran Electronics Industries, a subsidiary of the Iranian Defense Ministry, said the era of reverse engineering in the electronics industry in Iran has been over.

Local experts are currently designing and manufacturing super advanced electronic technologies and components, and with their achievements Iran is ranked among the world’s top five powers in this sector, General Shahrokh Shahram added.

Pointing to the modern wars in which the enemy hits targets from a long distance, the general said Iran has developed special monitoring equipment and radar systems to deal with the threats. “Such a technology is at the disposal of only five countries, and we have acquired this technology.”

He also noted that the Iran Electronics Industries Organization works in collaboration with over 600 universities and 900 knowledge-based companies to fulfill the demands of the Iranian Armed Forces.

The key to success in the modern warfare is creation of communication networks, Shahram stated, saying the Iranian experts have developed indigenous networks and have blocked the enemy’s eavesdropping capabilities by encrypting the communication data.

In comments last month, Air Defense Commander Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi Fard said the significant advances that Iran has made in the air defense industry has turned the country into one of the world’s top powers with the capability to detect every aerial object in its airspace and even outside the borders.
