Iran Qualifies for FIFA Futsal World Cup Knockout Stage
TEHRAN (Tasnim)-Iran came from a goal down to defeat USA 4-2 in Group F of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 at the Vilnius Arena on Friday.
Iran advanced to the competition’s knockout stage with two wins.
Team Melli, who defeated Serbia 3-2 in its Group F opening match, will play defending champion Argentina on Monday.
The 12-time Asian champion suffered a setback in the second minute due to sending off goalkeeper Alireza Samimi and USA player Luciano Gonzalez fired his effort past substitute goalkeeper Sepehr Mohammadi shortly after.
Farhad Tavakoli equalized the match in the fourth minute.
Mohammad Nazemosharieh’s team doubled its lead after Moslem Oladghobad set up Mehdi Javid in the seventh minute.
Ahmad Esmaeilpour added Iran’s third goal in the 10th minute.
Iran continued to dominate in the second half and came close to scoring in the 25th minute through Farhad Fakhim, but he failed to finish.
