Top General Hails Sustainable Security at Iran’s SE Border

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian military forces’ strong performance has led to sustainable security along the country’s southeastern frontiers, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said.

Speaking to reporters after two days of visits to the border areas in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan on Tuesday, Major General Mohammad said the situation at the boundaries has improved remarkably and the security along the southeastern frontiers has become growingly better in recent years.

Highlighting Iran’s perfect “intelligence and operational control” over the border areas, the commander said the unwavering efforts by the Border Police and the IRGC forces have resulted in the reduction of crimes, insecurity and drug trafficking in Sistan and Balouchestan.

“Fortunately, Pakistan has also taken appropriate measures in building border barriers, developing police stations, and increasing the number of border guards, and is working in full coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s border guards,” the general added.

He expressed hope that improvement of border security would turn the common border with Pakistan into the border of peace, friendship and sustainable security.

The Iranian Police and security forces have been quite successful in ensuring security in the large province Sistan and Balouchestan despite its long borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, harsh weather and vast desert areas.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
