Spokesman Condemns US’ New Sanctions on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson denounced the fresh sanctions that Washington has imposed on Tehran as a continuation of the futile policy of maximum pressure which reveal the US’ frustration and lack legitimacy.

Commenting on the US’ new sanctions against six Iranian individuals and an Iranian institution under the false pretext of interfering in the US elections, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Thursday, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the new US sanctions efforts as a continuation of the failed policy of Trump's maximum pressure and as actions out of desperation.”

He underlined that the sanctions have no legitimacy and are condemned, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Khatibzadeh also emphasized that such kinds of blame games by the US government, which has a long history of interfering in different countries in various forms, are considered baseless and meant to deceive the public opinion in America.

The remarks came after the US Treasury Department placed six Iranian persons and one institution on Washington's sanctions list under the pretext of their trying to impact on the 2020 US presidential elections.
