Iran Sends Condolences on Death of India’s Top General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian offered his deep condolences on the death of Indian Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat in a tragic helicopter crash.

In a message to his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian expressed grief over the incident and described it as a great loss for the Indian military community.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh issued a statement, expressing deep sorrow over the fatal helicopter crash.

He also offered condolences to the bereaved families, government and people of India over the incident.

Tributes have poured in from around the world for India's top military commander, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday.

General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others died after the Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.
