Iran to Appoint New Envoy to Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is going to appoint a new ambassador to Yemen, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.

In comments on the sidelines of a ceremony held in Tehran on Tuesday in commemoration of Iran’s ambassador to Yemen Hassan Irloo, who died of the coronavirus last week, Amirabdollahian said the late ambassador’s successor will be appointed in the near future.

He said the Iranian chargé d'affaires has kept the country’s embassy in Sana’a open and is handling the affairs.

“We press on with our plans to broaden cooperation with Yemen for the restoration of peace to that country and also for the lifting of blockade on Yemen, and believe that the issues in that country have only political solution,” he stated.

The foreign minister said while certain parties have been seeking to disintegrate Yemen into two or more regions, Tehran is opposed to the partition of regional and Muslim countries.
