TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least two kids were wounded Tuesday night when rockets were fired towards the home of Iraq's speaker of parliament, security sources said.

On Tuesday evening, three Katyusha rockets were launched from the banks of the Tigris river toward the residence of Mohammed al-Halbussi in the Karma district west of Baghdad, according to the Security Media Cell, which is affiliated with the Iraqi prime minister's office.

The first projectile landed behind the municipality's garage, while the second landed on Street 20 in front of a residential structure, according to the statement.

The third rocket landed in the al-Rashad neighborhood, injuring two people.

An Iraqi security source told AFP that three Katyusha rockets landed about "500 meters" (1,640 feet) from Halbussi's residence.

The source added that Halbussi was the target of the attack, but it was unclear whether he was at home at the time.

Iraqi police said in a statement that the two injured youngsters were brought to a hospital in Karma.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The attack came hours after Iraq's top court confirmed his re-election as speaker.

Iraqi President Barham Salih has slammed the “deplorable terrorist attack,” calling on the Iraqi nation to come together, protect social peace, and tread the path towards forming an Iraqi government that would safeguard the interests of the country and respond to the popular aspirations.
