Independent States Should Join Hands against Sanctions: Iranian President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called for collective cooperation among independent nations in countering sanctions, reaffirming Iran’s strategic ties with the countries that are at the forefront of struggle against the hegemons.

“By promoting the level of relations and supplying the demands of each other, independent states can nullify and neutralize the threats and sanctions from the global hegemons,” Raisi said at a meeting with Cuba’s new ambassador to Iran, held in Tehran on Tuesday.

Highlighting the close relations between Iran and Cuba, the president noted, “Iran has strategic relations with all countries that are at the forefront of the battle against the hegemons.”

The anti-imperialism and anti-oppression natures of Iran and Cuba have brought them closer together, Raisi said, adding, “The close relations between the two countries should be enhanced in all areas, including the economic, trade and cultural sectors, in line with the interests of the two nations.”

For his part, the Cuban envoy Alberto Gonzalez Casals submitted his credentials to the Iranian president, highlighting the strong and brotherly political relations between Havana and Tehran.

The incoming ambassador also expressed Cuba’s willingness to expand the economic and trade relations with Iran.

In a meeting with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel in Nicaragua in January, Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran is eager to promote cooperation with Cuba in nullifying the sanctions imposed by common enemies.

He also said Iran respects the Cuban government and people and their resistance against the oppressors’ excessive demands, and is determined to strengthen relations with Cuba.
