Good Deal in Vienna Talks at Hand If US Acts Realistically: Amirabdollahian

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian said a good and durable agreement in the Vienna talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal will be achievable if the US acts realistically and consistently.

In a post on his Twitter account on Friday, the top Iranian diplomat pointed to the issues he has discussed in a telephone conversation with EU Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell.

“Had a productive conversation with Josep Borrell today,” Amirabdollahian said.

“Efforts to reach a good & durable agreement continue; it is within reach if US acts realistically & consistently,” he added.

“No single party can determine end result; a joint endeavor is needed. Reason should prevail,” he underlined.

In the talks with Borrell, the Iranian foreign minister said there is no logical justification for the US to put forward new demands in the Vienna talks, emphasizing that the effective removal of sanction must not be affected by the US' excessive demands.

He also said the US cannot convey a new and different message to the Iranian negotiating team through the coordinator under the pretext of being under the pressure of the American public opinion.

Amirabdollahian had made it clear earlier that the West's haste to reach an agreement through the Vienna talks will not make Tehran to ignore its red lines.

The Vienna discussions between Iran and the other parties to the Iran deal began in April on the assumption that the US, under the administration of Joe Biden, would be willing to rejoin the JCPOA.

Former US President Donald Trump abandoned the JCPOA in May 2018 in pursuit of illegal "maximum pressure" sanctions against Iran.
