TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Weaving process of the world’s largest hand-woven kilim was finished in Qirokarzin city of Iran’s southern province of Fars, said Mohammad Jafar Ebrahimi, head of the Department of Heritage, Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts.

"The weaving of this kilim was ordered by the country of Qatar and carried out by the Glim and Gabbeh Ariafar Cooperative Company," Ebrahimi continued.

He said the kilim measures 7 by 15 meters, covering an area of 105 square meters.

Kilim is a flat tapestry-woven carpet or rug traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, including Iran, the Balkans and the Turkic countries.

Kilims can be purely decorative or can function as prayer rugs. Modern kilims are popular floor coverings in Western households.
