Hossein Amirabdollahian and Iraqi Prime Minster Mustafa al-Kadhimi talked about a range of bilateral and regional issues at a meeting in Tehran on Sunday.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude to Iraq for strengthening dialogue and for its constructive role in the regional equations and mediation in the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Highlighting the Islamic Republic’s good intentions for the region, Amirabdollahian said Iran supports the reopening of the embassies in Tehran and Riyadh.
He also pointed to the commonalities between Iran and Egypt, saying closer ties between Tehran and Cairo would benefit the region and the Islamic world.
Hailing the ceasefire in Yemen, Amirabdollahian expressed Iran’s support for the continuation of the truce and an end to the humanitarian siege of Yemen.
Iran believes that the regional problems have internal solutions, he stated.
For his part, the Iraqi premier highlighted the position and role of Iran in the regional developments.
Iraq is serious about enhancing relations with Iran in all fields, al-Kadhimi added, saying Baghdad will keep playing a positive role in the region.
The Iraqi prime minister also gave an assurance that his country will proceed with the efforts to strengthen regional dialogue and cooperation.
