Manijeh Castle" in Iran's Kermanshah

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Kermanshah province with a significant number of historical and natural monuments is known as one of the most important tourism provinces in Iran.

Among the cities of this province; Sarpol-e Zahab is also known as one of the important tourism hubs, both in the field of antiquities and culture, and in the field of nature tourism.

“Manijeh Zij” or “Manijeh Castle” is one of the ancient relics left near the city of Sarpol-e Zahab, which is located 15 km from this city in a village called Patagh.

Regarding the “Zij Manijeh“, the date is not very clear, but according to the architecture done in this building, especially the design of the gates, arches and also the roof covering used in this building, its construction can be compared to the late Sassanid period. The building is more than a thousand years old and although its nature is still in doubt, many archaeologists consider it a pavilion.

This building with a height of about 2 meters above the surrounding land and with dimensions of 70 by 50 square meters has a rectangular plan made of stone carcass and gypsum mortar.

In the central part of the building, there is a relatively large hall around which there are several corridors. This building is designed in such a way that through the northern corridors, the collection of rooms on the south side of the building can be accessed and through the southern corridor, the collection of rooms on the north side can be accessed.

Also, each of the east and west corridors around the hall leads to another corridor, through which the collection of rooms on the east and west sides of the building can be accessed.

On each side of the castle, there are 30 chambers that have shaped cradle arches, and now there are remains of them and some of them have survived. The castle gate is located on the west side and on the east side, the remains of the water stream can still be seen, the end of which is unknown.

At each corner of the castle, a tower and between the two towers that are located on each side of the castle, two relatively smaller towers have been built. Zij-e Manijeh is located near the village of Patagh and is not difficult to reach.
