Iran Summons German Envoy over Chancellor’s Stances

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Germany’s ambassador to Tehran was called to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in protest at the German chancellor’s interfering and irresponsible remarks about the Islamic Republic.

Hans-Udo Muzel was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

In a meeting, the director general of the West European affairs at the Foreign Ministry condemned the irresponsible statement from the German chancellor.

Conveying the strong protest of Iran about Germany's destructive approach towards the domestic developments in Iran, the Foreign Ministry official said the German side should bear the consequences of the continuation of such non-constructive statements and acts on the future of the mutual ties.

He also stressed that Iran is monitoring the stances and actions of the other sides with dignity and grandeur, takes into account its national interests, and will give them proportionate responses.

The German envoy, for his part, said he will convey the message of Iran to his government at the earliest.

During the meeting, the formal notice of protest of the Islamic Republic was handed over to the German ambassador.

In his latest anti-Iran and pro-riots stances, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized the Iranian government on Saturday for what he claimed was a “brutal crackdown” on protests after the September death of a young Iranian woman of Kurdish descent in the capital Tehran.

The German chancellor also claimed that Berlin would stand “shoulder to shoulder" with the Iranian people in their protests and riots across the country, accusing the Iranian government of being "solely responsible for this spate of violence."
