Haddadi Misses Matches against Japan, China in World Cup Qualifiers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran basketball national team captain Hamed Haddadi missed two key matches against Japan and China in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 from the Asian Qualifiers.

Team Melli is scheduled to play Japan in its away match on February 23 and will face China three days later.

Haddadi’s absence is a big blow to Iran since the Persians sit third in Group F.

Haddadi, who plays in Sichuan Blue Whales, suffered a foot injury in the match against Jilin Northeast Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday.

The Iranian player fell down in the game and was carried off on a stretcher.

The 37-year-old was later diagnosed with an Achilles tendon rupture.
