Iranian FM Discusses Legal, Security Cooperation with Iraqi Officials

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian stressed the importance of strengthening judicial and security cooperation with Iraq during separate meetings with the neighboring country’s heads of judiciary and national security on Thursday morning.

In his meeting with Iraq's Judiciary Cheif Faegh Zeidan, Amirabdollahian pursued the latest updates on the cases of the martyrdom of Iran’s Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Iraq’s Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

The Iranian top diplomat also discussed the strengthening of security cooperation between the two states with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassim al-Araji.

Earlier, in a meeting with the Iranian foreign minister and his delegation, Iraq’s Parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Halbousi emphasized that the legislative body supports relations between the two nations. The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation in different fields.

In addition, Amirabdollahian met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on Wednesday to discuss Tehran-Baghdad ties and called for the development of Iran-Iraq bilateral relations.

The Iranian minister also had a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Wednesday, where they discussed bilateral ties, as well as several regional and international issues.

The Iraqi Prime Minister appreciated Iran's support and expressed readiness to implement agreements reached during his visit to Iran.
