Iran Advances to FIBA World Cup for Fourth Consecutive Time

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran claimed the last FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 qualification spot as Australia defeated Kazakhstan 98-53 in Group F.

Team Melli was defeated against China 86-74 in Hong Kong Sunday morning but advanced to the World Cup for the fourth consecutive time.

Behnam Yakhchali scored 28 points for Iran while Qian Wu led China with 18 points.

In the last World Cup, Iran was the highest-placed team from Asia at 23rd place. Its best performance was at World Cup 2010 in Turkey where it finished 19th among all teams.

All qualification spots available from the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers are now claimed with Iran joining the co-hosts the Philippines and Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Australia, China, and Jordan at the World Cup later this year in Manila, Okinawa, and Jakarta.
