TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Expounding on the import and export situation of the Iranian gas, an official at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) unveiled plans for the resumption of gas swap deals with the neighbors.

Mohammad Reza Joulaei made the remarks on Friday and said, “Presently, there is 10 million cubic meter of gas imports from neighboring Turkmenistan which is ongoing within the framework of gas swap deal, 7 million of which is delivered to the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

Turning to the resumption of gas imports and exports, he emphasized, “Currently, suitable ways have been paved for exporting 10 million, 30 million, 6 million and 1 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, respectively.”

In response to a question whether the new contracts have been inked with neighboring countries for exporting gas, Joulaei added that preliminary steps have been taken for the conclusion of a 25-year contract in the long term with Iraq and Turkey, so that these countries would increase the amount of gas imports from Iran.

Presently, Turkmenistan is swapping gas with the Islamic Republic of Iran, while Iran prefers to import gas from its northeastern neighbor, the dispatching manager of the NIGC added.
