Muscat Satisfied with Progress of Iran’s Gas Export Project to Oman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Oman's minister of energy expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Iran’s gas pipeline construction project for exporting gas to the Sultanate of Oman.
Two weeks ago, Chief Executive of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company Reza Noshadi had announced the construction operation of Minab to Kooh Mobarak Pipeline near Jask aimed at the export of Iranian gas to Oman in the current year.
The contract for the construction of the gas pipeline project, which would be 400km long, was signed in 2013 for a period of 15 years in order to pump about 28 million cubic meters of gas from Iran to Oman.
A couple of days ago, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals Salim Al Aufi in an interview with an Oman daily said that Tehran and Muscat have agreed to set up a technical team for investigating the progress of Iran’s gas pipeline project to the Sultanate.
The minister hailed Iran’s unflinching effort to complete the construction of this giant project.
The Iranian-Omani Gas Pipeline Project originated in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries’ oil ministers in 2013. Progress cooled off but the effort was renewed in 2016.
However, the project was halted due to US pressure on Oman to find a different gas supplier after Washington withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in 2018.
