Iran Expresses Deep Concern over Destruction of Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani voiced concern regarding the humanitarian, environmental, and economic ramifications resulting from the catastrophic Kakhovka dam collapse in southern Ukraine.

Politics

The Iranian spokesman reiterated the unwavering stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the war in Ukraine, the targeting of civilian infrastructure, and the endangerment of human lives.

Kanaani called upon all parties involved in the conflict to abide by internationally recognized principles, which include safeguarding the lives of civilians and alleviating their suffering.

Given the increasingly intricate nature of the conflict, Kanaani demanded a thorough investigation to ascertain the full scope of the incident and identify the primary cause of this disaster.

The collapse of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant's dam has resulted in approximately 2,700 homes being inundated in 15 settlements within the Kherson Region, according to emergency services.

The latest updates indicated that the flooding has affected around 2,700 houses in 15 settlements of the Kherson Region, where a total of 22,000 people resided. Nearly 1,300 individuals have been evacuated.
