Mass Knife Attack in French Town of Annecy Injures Four Children

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Four children and one adult have been injured in a mass stabbing incident in the town of Annecy in the French Alps, according to French authorities.

The injured children were three years old, as confirmed by the police.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin took to Twitter to announce that the attacker had been apprehended swiftly due to the prompt response of the security forces.

An anonymous local official and a security source informed the French news agency Agence-France Presse (AFP) that the attack took place at 9:45 a.m. local time (0745 UTC).

AFP, citing an anonymous security source, reported that two of the injured individuals were in critical condition.

BFM TV, a French broadcaster, stated that the attack occurred in a park near the town's lake.

According to AFP's anonymous source, three victims are currently in critical condition.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne's office confirmed that she is en route to the scene of the attack.

Following the news of the incident, lawmakers in the French parliament observed a minute of silence.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack as an act of "absolute cowardice."

Annecy, situated in the eastern region of Haute-Savoie, is home to approximately 135,000 residents.
