Iran Runner-Up at 2023 West Asia U-23 Championship
TEHRAN (Tasnim)– Iran finished in second place in the 2023 West Asia U-23 Championship on Tuesday.
The Iranian team lost to host Iraq 5-4 in penalty shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw in regular and extra times.
Hossein Goudarzi scored for Iran in the 31st minute and Hussein Lawend equalized for Iraq in the 45th minute.
The 2023 WAFF U-23 Championship was the fourth edition of the biennial international age-restricted football championship organized by the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) for the men's under-23 national teams of West Asia.
