Iran Defers Dispatch of Envoy to Sweden over Insult to Quran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held off on sending a new ambassador to Stockholm in the wake of the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden, a source said.

The informed source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the new ambassador of Iran to Sweden will not start his mission in Stockholm for now although the bureaucratic processes for his mission have already been finalized.

Hojjatollah Faghani has been chosen as Iran’s new envoy to Sweden.

The source said the decision has been made in response to the insult to the Quran in Sweden.

The sacrilegious move that has angered Muslims across the world happened during the major Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha, when 37-year-old Salwan Momika burned a copy of the Muslim holy book in front of the Stockholm Mosque under police protection.

The provocative act has triggered widespread condemnation from various Islamic nations, including Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Senegal, Morocco, and Mauritania.

Sweden regularly brooks and even approves of such acts of sacrilege under the banner of tolerating "protests."

In January, dual Danish and Swedish extremist Rasmus Paludan burned a copy of the Holy Qur'an in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, and later again in front of a mosque.
