Iranian, Afghan Firms Ink MoU for Constructing Three Piers at Caspian Port

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between an Iranian and an Afghan company for $50 million worth of investment by the Afghan firm at the Caspian Port of Anzali aimed at building three piers.

The MoU was inked in the presence of Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones Hojjatollah Abdolmaleki.

Under the MoU, the company from Afghanistan will invest $50 million in the construction of three piers at the Caspian Port Complex in cooprartion with a domestic company as a Joint Venture (JV).

In the signing ceremony, Acting Head of Anzali Free Zone Niazi said, “Under the memorandum of understanding inked with a domestic company, the foreign investor will ink the contract of investing at the Caspian Port within the next three months.”

Also, the secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones pointed to the attraction of foreign investment at free zones and stated that attracting foreign investment and defining incentive packages within the framework of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) using the domestic partners are among the main strategies of the free zones.

He invited both domestic and foreign investors to seize the opportunity of investing in free zones.

The MoU inked for $50 million of investment of an Afghan company at the Caspian Port will strengthen transit, logistics and infrastructures of this sector, the official concluded.
