Iran’s Shakeri Takes Gold at U-20 World Wrestling Championships
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian freestyler Mohammad Reza Shakeri claimed a gold medal at the U-20 World Wrestling Championships on Tuesday.
Shakeri beat Jesse Mendez from the US 5-2 in the final match of the 65kg.
The bronze medals went to Russian Dalgat Abdulkadyrov and Turkey’s Abdullah Toprak.
The 2023 U-20 World Wrestling Championships started in Amman, Jordan on August 14 and will run until August 20.
The event had originally been scheduled to be held in Warsaw, Poland from August 14-20. Due to Poland's refusal to issue visas to Russian and Belarusian wrestlers, the United World Wrestling moved the tournament from Poland to Jordan.
